Sonic the Hedgehog: Issue 89, Besieged

Hello and welcome all! To the Comic Book Nerd's Blogger! Thanks as always for checking in with me and the Blog spot. This next review comes in as a request from Esli of Eugene Oregon! He writes:

Hey Nerd Chris! I have always been a huge fan of Sonic, though I'm not that into comic books much at all, but I was wonder if you could possibly do a review on any of YOUR favorite Sonic comics from your collection's?

Thanks!

--Esli

As always, I have something for you, Esli!! Even though I have a huge collection of comics, I don't have many Sonic books! I know this is a subject I am lacking in, but video game comics tend to not be as good as most 'pin-offs' do. But, there is one Sonic book I do own that you all viewing might enjoy?

As always, a beautiful article from Wikipedia telling some history:
Sonic the Hedgehog (ソニック・ザ・ヘッジホッグ Sonikku za Hejjihoggu), trademarked Sonic The Hedgehog, is a video game character and the main protagonist of the Sonic video game series released by Sega, as well as in numerous spin-off comic books, video game series, and a feature movie. The first Sonic game was released on June 23, 1991, in order to provide Sega with a mascot to rival Nintendo's flagship character Mario (see 1991 in video gaming). Since then, Sonic has become one of the world's best-known video game characters, with his series having sold more than 70 million copies. In 2005, Sonic was one of the first game character inductees into the Walk of Game, alongside Mario and Link (Character from the Legend of Zelda).

Artist Naoto Ōshima, designer Hirokazu Yasuhara, and programmer Yuji Naka are generally credited with the creation of the character, a blue 15-year-old anthropomorphic hedgehog, who has the ability to run at supersonic speeds and the ability to curl into a ball, primarily to attack enemies. This is a major part of the gameplay of the series.

This one is called, "Sonic the Hedgehog: Besieged" its the 89th issue from the Sonic the Hedgehog Archie Adventure Series, and I actually was surprised with the story. It was aimed more towards the younger crowd's, but I liked how the little things in the pun's got the older readers attention.

In this issue, Sonic is faced up against the evil Dr. Robotnik (as always) Sonic's most feared villain in the world little 15-year-old Hedgehogs life.

So...I obviously didn't ever really keep up with this series, but it looks pretty cool. Early on Dr. Robotnik attempted to kill off Sonic, as well as Tales and their friends, Princess Sally, and Prince Elias. The Prince and Princess's father and mother tragically fell in a battle (in the last issue I don't have) against Dr. Robotnik in his attempt to capture a sword called the the Sword of Acorns that has some supernatural power to restore health and energy to beings in the Planet of Mobius.

As I read further into the comic, I thought it was very interesting how much Sonic loves Chili-Dogs....uh....never mind that...
I also thought it interesting how Sonic's mother and father are robots, seeing as his 'mission' in life is to always prevent Dr. Robotnik (or shall I say, Egg-man?) and his evil army of robot villains, I found it a bit ironic...Heh...
So, I got passed the silly irony of the story, and noticed halfway through the comic, the story just kinda cuts off and starts a new adventure that seems to be a knuckles short story. Now, don't get me wrong, but I love Knuckles in the games, but why did they have to cut this original story in half to fit in the little mini-series to jst be lazy and half ass it all? I laughed pretty hard.

But, if any of you do decide to buy this issue, be prepared to be cut off, and not continue with the whole Sword of Acorns deal...I was a bit disappointed in that area of note. Though, if you are highly interested in Sonic the Hedgehog (Esli!) I would suggest going to your local Comic Shop and buying the next issue to see if the Acorn story continues in that one...If not, then I hope these writers are dead by now!

I would give this comic an 8/10 because it was kinda BS how the story just cut off like it did...But I did like the Anime type of edginess it had with the artwork (and I'm not one for the Anime stuff...) and if you are a fan of Knuckles like I am, then you would REALLY appreciate the little adventure he goes through to save the planet of the Floating Island...Its a really neat and creative gesture coming from Archie Comics, and a great read.

Thanks as always, and see you next time Comic Nerd's!

And if any of you are interested in becoming a friend on Facebook, go ahead and add me if you like? I am ALWAYS open to suggestions and requests for comics! If I don't have it, I'll sure as heck be glad to go out and buy it and do up a review, just for you!! ;D Thanks once more, and have fun all True-Believers! I hope this was helpful to you, Esli, and thanks for your request.

Batman: The Dark Knight (David Finch/Scott Williams)

Hello and welcome back once again, True-Believers/Dark Knight's/Moon Knight's/What ever it is these days that you all call it!!

So...I finally got a new copy of something...I'm not sayin' I'm a cheap bastard with no time/money on my hands except for time to do Comic Book Reviews and sit around all day pressing the re-fresh page on his Facebook profile hopping people talk to me!, but I usually never do this!....Well...Maybe I am a cheap bastard with no time/money on his hands except for time to do Comic Book Reviews and sit around all day pressing the re-fresh page on his Facebook profile hopping people talk to me!! Oh well!!!! Haha, I'm so witty!...

I recently just went to the Comic "Fortress of Solitude" Shop and purchased a few goodies specially from, well, from the Comic "Fortress of Solitude" Shop! Isn't that amazing? And if you happened to read the title, you would know that this Comic I bought was the new January publish of the Batman: The Dark Knight issue #1 with the fantastic cover-art of Finch, and the creative greatness of Scott Williams!

First off, I would love to say, THIS WAS AMAZING! AND CAN'T WAIT TO GRAB THE NEXT ISSUE COMING THIS MONTH!!...
The art was great. The story was fantastic. I couldn't seem to get enough of David Finch's fantastic art! I mean seriously!!...I always liked Killer Croc (SPOILER ALERT) though I never liked him as a giant behemoth-like 'Creature from the Black Lagoon' style!...I mean, its seriously dorky. I always loved the thought of Croc being some thing like a human, mixed with a bit of scales as skin, much like the Alligator-Man. It just makes more sense in my 'expert' opinion. And with ties in with the mofia, it seems more 'realistic', even though there is not much realisticness about Batman villains.
Not only was the art great, but as well the start of this new Comic. It surely is coming along great! I love how it started with flash-backs of Wayne's parents and their death, as well as flash-backs with "Dawn Golden". A daughter of a former crime-lord of Gotham City (And just so happened to know Bruce's parents), who seemed to have gone missing and Its up to Bruce to put the puzzle pieces together and solve this mystery. But before he finds an important clue that could be crucial to the mission of finding this girl he knew from his child-hood, the Penguin shows up and has to ruin the whole deal! That punk!!...And Thats when the whole book ended! Leaving us (The readers) at a cliff-hanger! I was shouting, "NOOOOOOO!!!! THIS ISN'T LOST!!!"

Besides the cliff-hanger, I loved it! I wish ALL Batman series where like this one. He wasn't just a crime fighting vigilante in a cape like all the others. He was more of a detective, and a person with feeling. They really brought the character to life! I just wish I had the next issue already!

If this team (Finch and Williams) continues with this new series, I would be so content with it all. The Art-work was so fantastic, and I don't think I can say anything more about the story/writing that I already haven't....well....maybe I can! IT WAS AMAZING!

Of course, and as always. Batman gets another 10/10 for amazingness/greatness/epicness/everything-ness you can thing of that falls under those categories. A great read for anyone! Go out to your local Comic Shop and pick it off the shelves! Its fantastic! I'm tellin' you all! GET IT!!!!

Thanks again, from your favorite Comic Book Nerd, Chris!

New Batch of Goodies. Straight from My Collection, To Your Eyes...Also...Moon Knight Discussion?

Greetings friends! And welcome once again to the Comic Book Nerds Blog! Words cannot express, nor begin to describe how excited I am for you all to be here once more...Well...Maybe they can!

Anyway, this time I have gone to the extreme people! That's right E.X.T.R.E.M.E.!! I have picked up a comic/comic series I thought I might never pick up in my entire lifetime! Thor: First Thunder! And I have to admit, it wasn't too bad, though it is just another re-boot of the old Journey into Mystery stuff that Thor first appeared in in the early 60's from Marvel. Though I have to say I was never a fan of Thor myself, many of the readers that I know who actually enjoy Thor told me First Thunder was not their favorite. Me on the other hand, never expect too much from another God/Superhero scene. So when I did decide to buy First Thunder, I actually wasn't expecting too much from it, come to find out, I actually liked it! Hmmmm....

'Oh well!' I say to thee who shalt not like my agreement with marvel that hath bestowed thy grace with thy Book of Comic!...haha, I have no idea what I am talking about? Do you? No, no! Please! Tell me what the heck just happened there! It was like...some God took over my body, after I found this really awesome twig, and all of a sudden I found I had the strength of a God....Wait....Wasn't that the plot in the book? Hahaha Ohhhh yeah! So it is...

See what I mean? Its kinda lame, though I love the art work that was done in this new re-boot of Thor. I can't really say how good the new movie is gonna be, so don't trust my judgment on this review if your looking for an opinion on the movie. If you are, then I say its gonna suck! Just like every Hollywood comic flick out there! Green lantern? Maybe...Captain America...Could possibly be good, but still, I'm not gonna see it till I can either watch it at a friends place, or get it for free somehow.
Great! Here i go again...Ranting about useless information! Luckily, its not useless to some, such as myself! So ha! :P

And of course, here is some history of Journey into Mystery:
Journey into Mystery was an American Comic Book series published by Atlas Comics, and later its successor Marvel. It featured horror, monster, and of course, science fiction stories. With the start of the Silver Age of Comics, Marvel switched the feature to Superhero stories and in issue #83 introduced Thor, inspired by the Norse Thunder God and by writer Stan Lee's musings that comic books were the mythology of the modern day. Journey into Mystery primarily featured Thor stories through issue #125 and Journey into Mystery Annual #1, at which point the series was retitled The Mighty Thor.

Of course, not only did Thor just have his own brand of comics going for him, but he was later inducted into the Avengers, Marvel's way of slapping their DC competitors in the face by creating a new fighting force much like The Justice League of America. Though they are just as cool, I like the JLA much more. At least...In my opinion...

ANYWAYS!...Moving on...

I also picked up an older Batman Comic today. Even though it is a bit older, I still enjoy reading ANYTHING written about the Gotham Knight. In this one, he is faced up against the deadly Ra's Al Ghul. A fierce warrior from the lands of...Well...From Asia I guess?
In Batman: Death and the Maidens, Ra's has now been suffering from some illness, and is looking to Batman once again to join his 'great' empire of 'honor and duty' an all that B.S.
Even though Ra's wants something good in this world, he ALWAYS tries to go about it the wrong way. Much like what Batman wants, Ra's wants as well, though killing millions to save the lives of thousands is not the way Batman would ever go about doing it, but Ra's Al Ghul would.

Also, what some don't know is that Wayne had a 'thing'....Yes, a 'thing' for Ra's Al Ghul's daughter. And Ra's of course knew this, and also knew about Wayne's alter-ego and knew that Bruce would play a very important roll in the 'recreation of the world' scenario if his daughter was to marry into the Wayne family. But when ever Ra's brings up this importance to Bruce, he deny's anything between his daughter and himself. Bruce would never, CAN NEVER, mary into a family filled with a life of crime.
So in this Death and the Maidens, its practically all about Ra's Al Ghul and himself trying to take over the world for 'the good of the world'. And there is a little love/romance in it between Bruce and Nyssa Raatko (Ra's Al Ghul's daughter). I have yet to finish the mini-series, but I shall buy the rest once I get enough money to purchase them all. I believe it is about an 8 part series consisting of about the normal 20-30 pages in each comic...so it should be a great story line here for me. I'm excited, I just hope you all are as well? And if not, then who cares?

Moving on! About this new Bendis and Maleev Moon Knight coming in May...I AM SO EXCITED! I don't know about any of you all out there, but I pretty much peed myself when a friend informed me about it!

http://www.comicvine.com/news/new-moon-knight-series-by-bendis-maleev/142790/

As you all know, I am a HUGE Moon Knight fan, and I use that term loos. So loos its like rubber! I know, that was a terrible joke, I don't know what came over me...My blood sugar was low or something? But anyway!!! MOON KNIGHT!

If any of you have read my last post, you would know that Marvel has canceled Moon Knight, and has been canceled since...I really don't know how long ago....But still! He is due for a re-boot! And I am excited to say, May will release the drop of this new Moon Knight re-boot!
The even better part is that Bendis and his crazy team of awesome is going to be writing/drawing/editing and everything! Its orgasmic!!

Now, if you don't know already, but Bendis and his team of creativeness/awesomeness was behind the Ultimate Spider-Man series. One of my favorites of all time!! I am also a HUGE fan of Spidey and Ultimate was like God's gift to us nerds!

And if you are any sort of Moon Knight fan, you would be just as stoked for this as I am right now!! I soooooo can't wait to see what they are doing with him.

If any of this info was useless to you, then tell it to my face!! I'll personally kick your...Soccer ball!

I would give Thor: First Thunder a whopping 8/10, only because I am not a huge fan of the story, and there was not a good story line lined up for it...its all just the same thing talking about the same stuff and all that jazz...Though I like it better than any other Thor story thus far! I can't wait to get the next issue. And since its a 5 part issue, I am not too worried.
Batman: Death and the Maidens, I will give about a 9/10 because I love the story, but there wasn't that much in-depth background to it. The beginning started out as the same old Batman stuff...About Bruce remembering his parents and how they died when he was a child. TIME TO MOVE ON BRUCIE-BAT'S!

This has been another Comic Book review from yours truly!

Chris, The Comic Book Nerd! Be sure to comment/discuss...and get back to me on FB about ANY review you want me to do in the future! If there is something not on here, then give me a message in detail asking about your favorite comic, and I'll gladly do a review on it.

Thanks again True-Believers!
